Razer has been known to produce quality gaming mice and according to reviews, their sensor technology is one of the best. Razer sent me their entry-level gaming mouse which is the DeathAdder to play with. You can see on the packaging that it uses an infrared sensor as opposed to other gaming mice which commonly use laser. Infrared sensors are supposed to provide less color sensitivity which means it can be virtually used on any surface. The packaging has all of the specifications of the mouse and is bundled with quick start guides and Razer stickers.
Razer obviously spent a lot of time and research to get the shape of the Deathadder. It fits comfortably in my hand and the matte finish of the area where the palm rests is a nice touch especially for those with sweaty palms. The mouse comes with a generous 7ft. of braided fiber cable. Considering this is Razer’s entry-level gaming mouse they didn’t skimp on the cable. The Zero-Acoustic Ultraslick™ Teflon® feet glides like butter even without a mousepad. Pair it with any Razer gaming mat and you’ll have ultimate control of your cursor.
The big non-slip buttons of the DeathAdder is unlike any other. The tactile feedback of the Left and Right mouse click is pretty good. It has an anti-ghosting feature so you won’t accidentally click on the buttons more than you intended to. The scroll wheel is made of rubber and feels firm making it very usable on FPS games as you’ll never miss switching to the weapon that you need.
There are two thumb buttons which you can program to whatever function you want. The response on the thumb buttons is one of the best I’ve tried among gaming mice. I modified the thumb buttons to adjust DPI on-the-fly as I like to switch my sensitivity when I go Sniper scope mode. I was a bit disappointed though that the On-The-Fly Sensitivity feature is not as smooth as the one on my Microsoft Sidewinder X5. There is a bit of lag before the sensitivity kicks in.
Razer’s drivers are one of the best in the market today. You can adjust just about everything about the mouse (except the color of the LED, which is reserved for Razer’s more expensive mice). Every button can be assigned with anything you want; it also has a macro recorder for all the macro users out there. The driver page is very user-friendly and can be used intuitively.
Overall the Razer DeathAdder is a great mouse to use. It’s very comfortable to handle and the keys are very responsive. If you’re in the market for a new gaming mouse but don’t want those super expensive high-end mice, the Razer DeathAdder would be a great choice for Php3,299. The DeathAdder combines responsiveness and controllability when it comes to the sensor.
