RIM intros BlackBerry Bold 9790 and BlackBerry Curve 9380

New BlackBerry phones were announced today by Research In Motion. One looks like a more affordable version of the BlackBerry Bold 9900 which is the Bold 9790. Another one looks like the new Curve in Storm’s clothing, the Curve 9380. Both phones run on the new BlackBerry OS 7 and have NFC support.
The Blackberry Bold 9790 is like the Bold Touch 9900 but with a smaller 2.44-inch touchscreen with a 360 x 480 resolution. It also packs a 1GHz processor, a bit slower than the 9900′s 1.2GHz but it shouldn’t matter though. There’s still the 8GB internal storage with expandable microSD and a 5 megapixel autofocus camera. It’s poised to be a more price-friendly version of the Bold Touch phone.
The BlackBerry Curve 9380 is the first Curve that doesn’t have BB’s signature QWERTY keyboard which a lot of people might be disappointed at. Anyway, this new Curve will have a 3.2-inch touchscreen HVGA display which is entry-level in today’s touchscreen phone standards. It retained the Curve’s optical trackpoint which is unnecessary on a full-touchscreen phone as proven by early Android phones. The Curve 9380 also uses an 806MHz processor and has 512MB RAM and 512MB internal memory expandable via the microSD slot. It has a 5-megapixel camera as well.

So there’s your new BlackBerry phones. Nothing extraordinary that will give a RIM a much-needed boost to gain back the market’s confidence but let’s wait if they can offer it at a competitive price to be really successful
