When the Nokia 808 PureView was unveiled, people
were impressed with its massive 41 megapixel camera, but it was a “What
the hell?” moment after realizing it is running Symbian instead of
Windows Phone 7.
It’s like seeing Stephen Elop driving a V12 super car instead of the Stig. However, since the PureView project started 5 years ago, Symbian was the OS Nokia had at the time.
Nokia’s Executive Vice President for smart devices, Jo Harlow, has
confirmed that the PureView technology is indeed coming to future Lumia
phones. When asked by the Finnish newspaper Aamulehti about when such
phones would be released, Harlow answered, “I can’t say precisely when,
but it will not take very long.”
The Nokia 808 is already a very capable camera phone under Symbian,
but if you really want WP7 with that 41 megapixel camera, may I suggest
that you save your hard-earned bucks for the Lumia PureView. Perhaps a
Lumia 900 PureView?
