Amazon has announced two new tablets for its Kindle Fire series: a 7-inch and an 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD. Let’s find out what these devices have to offer.
The 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD has a
1920×1200 large screen IPS display at 254 ppi. It has dual-core 1.5GHz
TI OMAP4 4470 processors, front-facing HD camera, dual speakers, HDMI
out and dual band MIMO technology for faster WiFi connectivity.
Prices starts at $299 for the 16GB version. 32GB and 64GB variants
are also available. No 8GB versions here as Amazon considered it “not
enough” for an HD tablet. There’s also a 4G LTE version with 32GB of
storage but exclusive to AT&T’s network. Costs $499 if you need to
know.
The smaller 7-inch Kindle Fire HD has almost the same specs as its
8.9-inch brother except for the processor which is a dual-core 1.2GHz TI
OMAP4 4460 and screen resolution which goes down to 1280×800, same
resolution as the Nexus 7. Amazon claims 11 hours of battery life from this model. Prices starts at $199 for the 16GB model.
The Kindle Fire HD is running Amazon’s version of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and will start shipping units on November 20.
