Dell Streak 5 hands-on, first impressions

The Dell Streak 5 has been available in the Philippines for several months now but it’s only this time that we’ve been able to secure a review unit. So before we post our full review next week, here are some hands-o impressions of the tablet.
The Dell Streak 5 is currently the only Android tablet in the 5-inch category — a little bigger than the largest Android smartphones at 4.3″ and smaller than the usual 7-inch tablets.
In most cases, using the Streak 5 feels like it’s just an over-sized Android phone.
Even the specs speaks loudly that this tablet’s only glaring difference among the dozens and dozens of Android phones out there is its size. For a 5-incher, the screen resolution of 480×800 pixels seems a bit low.
Dell Streak 5 specs:
5″ TFT capacitive touchscreen (480 x 800 pixels)
Gorilla Glass display
1GHz Scorpion processor (Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon)
Adreno 200 GPU
16GB storage
512MB ROM, 512MB RAM
up to 32GB via microSD
HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
WiFi 802.11 b/g, Wi-Fi hotspot
Bluetooth 2.0 w/ A2DP
5MP autofocus camera w/ dual-LED flash
720p video recording
GPS w/ aGPS
Li-Ion battery 1530mAh

The Dell Streak 5 actually has that odd position of being too small for a tablet but too big for a smartphone. However, if you ae in the market for an Android phone and a tablet but have a tight budget, the Streak 5 could be a good compromise.
With a street price of about Php25,500, it’s gunning for the same market as the old 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab. I must admit though, having owned a number of 4.3″ smartphones, a 5-inch 3G tablet does have its appeal.
