Have you ever had one of those days where you just had to take a shot
with your rifle from a mile away, but the wind and physics in general
just wouldn’t cooperate? Yeah, we have too, and we do wish there were an
easier way. Fortunately, the US government may soon have the answer to
this problem. DARPA, the military research outfit responsible for such
awesomeness as BIG DOG has
just granted a third-party company six million dollars to come up with a
system to aid their marksmen in making critical shots at huge distances
while taking into account such things as wind, gravity and other things
that snipers usually have to go through years of training to
accomplish. There have been several iterations of this system in the
past, but they have had their share of problems. DARPA is hoping that
this next time will be the answer they are looking for.
