Everybody seems to be finding the value of apps now. Two days ago rival telco Smart Communications
presented several apps developed by third party developers via the WAC
or the Wholesale Applications Community. Globe, for its part will launch
new services as well which they unveiled at the MWC 2012.
The GSMA Mobile World Congress which is the world’s biggest tech
trade show participated by over 60,000 participants. With nearly 800
mobile operators worldwide as well as more than 200 companies in the
broader mobile ecosystem, including handsets manufacturers, content
developers, internet companies and media & entertainment
organizations; the Congress is a very good venue to launch a product or a
service.
GCASH
is a payment service by Globe which has been around since 2004 and this
year, it will be available as an App in all platforms. Set to be on
full operation by April, Gcash Apps will be available in the Blackberry
AppWorld, Android Market, and in the App Store for the IOS Devices.
Forget about memorizing keywords, simply download the App and make use
of the services available like sending money to your Facebook friend,
buy load, pay bills and even taxes. Currently Globe GCash has about 100
billers – from Insurance to water bills.
Globe GCash also partnered with AMEX to develop online payment
solutions. This aims to provide hassle-free shopping experience to Pinoy
through GCash. Now all Filipino with GCash can enjoy buying online from
the US and UK that accepts AMEX and have it delivered directly to their
homes in the Philippines. All GCash subscribers will have a US or UK
P.O. Box which they can use as address when doing online purchases.
Don’t be surprised though if you cannot make a purchase of more than
P40k a day or 100k/month as this cap is a regulation by the Bangko
Sentral ng Pilipinas and is in force not only for Globe’s services but
to all banking-related services in the country as well.
Moreover, RIM and Globe partnered together to allow Globe BlackBerry
users to charge purchases of apps from the Blackberry AppWorld and
charge it directly into their monthly bill or to their prepaid credits.
